Umayyad Caliphate. temp. 'Abd al-Malik ibn Marwan, AH 65-86 / AD 685-705. Drachm (Silver, 32 mm, 3.87 g, 11 h), Arab-Sasanian type, citing governor ‘Ubayd Allah ibn Abi Bakra (AH 79-80 / AD 698-699), SK (Sijistan), AH 80 = AD 699. Draped bust resembling Khosrau II to right, wearing an elaborate mural crown; behind head, ‘GDE / ʾp̄zwt’ (‘[may his] glory increase’ in Pahlavi); before head, ‘ʾwbytʾlʾ / Y ʾbwbklʾn’ = ‘Ubaydālā ī Abūbakrān’ (‘ʿUbayd Allah son of Abu Bakra’ in Pahlavi); in the outer margin, ‘bism Allāh ˗ rabbī’ (‘In the name of Allah, my Lord’ in Arabic)’. Rev. Fire altar with ribbons, flanked by two attendants; to left, date in Pahlavi; to right, ‘SK’ (abbreviation for the name of the mint in Pahlavi). Album 37. Rare. Some doubling and minor lamination, otherwise, good very fine.
